FAMILY FUN DAY 07/30/08
FAMILY FOCUS FUN NIGHT DRAWS BIG CROWD
From 5:30 PM - 8:00 PM on Wednesday, July 30, Second Baptist of Hamlet was awash with parents, grandparents, children, and other relatives as the church family and Day School families enjoyed a Family Focus Fun Event. Co-chairmen for the special event were Phyllis Fuller and Millie Vickers.
Second Baptist provided a free supper of hot dogs and hamburgers with all the trimmings, a dessert, and a cold drink.
There were 21 fun activities for children and adults to enjoy doing or just watching. There was something for everyone: the youngest attender was just a few weeks old while the oldest was 90.
One of the most popular events seemed to be the Dunking Booth with Church Pastor Chris Hawks, Minister of Music and Outreach Randall Watson, and Deacon Chairman Dwayne Wright hitting the water frequently to the delight of a large number of on-lookers.
Jimmy Stricklin, church deacon, was showing a beautifully crafted antique car that he had built that was modeled after cars of the early 1900s. The car is large enough for 2 passengers to ride in, using a gasoline engine.
In addition to the 107 church members and Day School parents who volunteered to help run the 21 fun attractions (all of which were free, including many prizes), several church members worked to prepare the free meal and clean up the Fellowship Hall.
Gladys Stogner, Sunday School teacher and long-time church member, said she had never seen as many vehicles parked around the church as she saw Wednesday night. Folks were actually driving around, looking for a parking spot.
